Mahajan says yet to receive notice, will reply appropriately

New Delhi, Apr 2 (UNI) BJP General Secretary Pramod Mahajan today declined to comment on the notice issued by the Election Commission to him for violating the Election Code of Conduct by holding a press conference in Guwahati today.

Mr Mahajan said all the information he had in this regard was gathered from the media and he was ''yet to receive the notice. ''I will reply it appropriately,'' a party release quoted him as saying.

''But to the best of my knowledge, I have not violated the Election Code of Conduct by holding a general press conference in Guwahati today. The press conference was held in a closed hall. I did not appear for any candidate of Guwahati city or for that matter candidate of the first phase. It is not tantamount to holding a public meeting,'' he said.

''Guwahati is the capital of Asom. Leaders of different political parties come to Guwahati for campaigning for the second phase and they interact with the press,'' Mr Mahajan said, noted that this cannot be called campaigning for the first phase.
