Mahajan hauled up by EC

Guwahati, Apr 02 (UNI) BJP general Secretary Pramod Mahajan today faced the ire of the Election Commission (EC) as he was hauled up for violation of code of conduct.

Mr Mahajan, the party in-charge for Asom, addressed a press conference and this was viewed as a violation of code of conduct since the electioneering ended yesterday.

The District Magistrate had been asked to make an inquiry and submit a report for further action. Briefing the newsmen, CEO J B Prakash termed the incident as serious violation of EC model code of conduct.

The EC also asked to file a case in front of the Magistrate against Mr Mahajan.

The phase-I of Asom poll will take place tomorrow and it included Guwahati, where Mr Mahajan held its press conference.

The campaigning ended yesterday and the EC came down on Mr Mahajan after receiving a complaint in this regard.

Meanwhile, Mr Prakash informed that 359 companies were deployed in the first phase of which 285 were engaged in polling stations.
