Bellary, Karnataka, Apr 2 (UNI) The BJP in Karnataka today described the large scale illegal mining activities in this district of Karnataka as the ''illegitimate child'' of the previous Government.

Talking to newspersons here, BJP State President Sadananda Gowda said the menace had been continuing unabated for long, but the JD(S)-BJP Government in the State was committed to check it. Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had announced in the floor of the Legislative Council that the Government would not remain silent over the issue, he recalled.

On the recent Bhatkal communal violence, he alleged that the Opposition parties, especially the Congress, had indulged in a mudslinging campaign against the coalition set up. The Government had given a free hand to the police to bring the culprits to book.

Steps were being taken to restore normalcy in the area.

About senior BJP leader L K Advani's Bharat Suraksha Yatra, he said it would enter Bijapur on April 12. The former Prime Minister would address public meetings and press conferences at Bijapur, Hubli, Bagalkot, Navalgund, Naragund and Bellary. From this district, he would go to Andhra Pradesh through Hindupur.
