Hmar chief kidnapped: man shot dead

Imphal, Apr 2: Hmar Inpui president M.Hmante was allegedly kidnapped by suspected militants last evening from his residence at Churachandpur district, police said today.

M Hmante, the president of the highest body of the Hmar tribe, was taken away by gun totting youths from his residence last evening.

Police said it was not yet known why he was kidnapped. The matter was being investigated by Churachandpur police.

Meanwhile in a separate incident a 50 year old man was shot dead by unknown gunmen at Imphal east last night.
