French quartet for popularising Western classical music
Hyderabad, Apr 2 (UNI) The Department of Archaeology and Museums in collaboration with Alliance Francaise, is organising a concert of western classical music by a French quartet at the Monsieur Raymond's Tomb here tomorrow.
Department Director J Kedareswari told reporters here yesterday that the members of the pure string quartet were here as part of International Council of Museums' call to associate youth with the discovery of cultural heritage.
Hyderabad's French connection dates back to the 18th century when Monsieur Raymond made it his home and set up a gun foundry to make some of the finest guns, muskets and pistols in the region.
Raymond joined Nizam Ali Khan in Hyderbad and from a small force of 300 soldiers, he built up an impressive army of 14,000 men under 124 European soldiers.
