Experienced players needed to win World Cup: Vengsarkar
Margao, Apr 2 (UNI) Former captain Dilip Vengsarkar today said while the youngsters in Team India were doing well, experience should also not be completely overlooked if India want to win the World Cup next year.
Speaking to reporters at the Nehru stadium here on the eve of the third ODI between India and England tomorrow, the 'Colonel', as he is known in his playing days, said that the youngsters have been doing well against a depleted England side and it is yet to be seen whether they can stand up to tough competitions in future.
Vengsarkar added that in the World Cup, India will require mature players as the mega event cannot be won just by youngsters and would require experienced players who have gone through all the pressures a World Cup carries.
The Indian middle order stalwart also thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for proposing his name as the ICC match referee.
There has been no match referee from India since Vishwanath, who gave up the post two years back and therefore it is nice that an Indian would be on the panel, he added.
