Devotees offer prayers at Shringar Gauri shrine amid security

Varanasi, Apr 2 (UNI) Devotees in steady trickles were allowed to offer prayers at the Shringar Gauri shrine inside the highly sensitive Kashi Vishwanath-Gyanwapi complex here on the fourth day of Basant Navaratra today.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Gyanwapi) Jugal Kishore Tiwari said here that keeping in mind the siginificance of prayers, people were allowed to offer prayers at the shrine.

Mr Tiwari further said that following attempts by Shiv Sena workers to perform 'Jalabhishek' at the shrine on every Mahashivratri and the auspicious month of Shrawan, offering of prayers was restricted at Shringar Gauri shrine.

However, owing to the shrine's significance on the fourth day of Navaratra, people were allowed 'darshan and pujan' at the shrine for today only, but under tight security, he added.
