'Chinnappan' wins best professional drama award

Thrissur, Apr 2 (UNI) ''Chinnappan,'' staged by Chirayinkeezhu Anugraha, has won the best professional drama award from the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi for 2005.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs 30,000, a citation and a plaque.

Kollam Areena's 'Akshayajothis' and Kozhikode Khankavil Nilayam's 'Karinkurangu' were chosen for the second best plays award which carried a cash prize of Rs 20,000 each, citations and plaques.

The best director award went to Satheesh Sangamithra who directed 'Akshayajothis.' He will get a cash prize of Rs 15,000, a citation and a plaque.

The awards were announced by Jury Chairman Mala Aravindan in the prersence of Akademi office-bearers here today.

Noted cinema and stage actor Thilakan was chosen for a special award of Rs 30,000, a citation and a plaque for his contributions to the growth of Malayalam drama.

Following were the the other awards: Best actor: Kaanjipuzha Sasi for his role in 'Ramettan' in 'Akshayajothis Best Actress: Nilambur Ayisha for her role in 'Karinkurangu'' Second best actor: Vijayan Chathannoor (Rajakan) - Rs 7,500 Second Best actress: Sethulakshmi (Chinnappan) - Rs 7,500 Best playwright: Pradeep Kumar Kavunthara (Karinkurangu) Music Director: Devi Krishna, Male Singer: Viswanathan, Female Singer: Prathiba, Lyricist: Ezhachery Ramachandran, Best Background Score: Aleppey Rishikesh, Settings: Artist Sujathan, Lighting: S S Rajesh, Costumes: Narayanan and book on drama: Vattaparambil Peethambaran.

'Rajakan' of Valluvanadu Nadam Communications won a special jury award of Rs 10,000.
