BJP raises Sonia's foreign origin
Guwahati, Apr 2 (UNI) The BJP today again raised the foreign origin issue of Congress president Sonia Gandhi saying the party was ''led by a foreigner and supported by foreigners in Asom''.
Addressing a news conference here, the BJP in charge of Asom election Pramod Mahajan asserted that the BJP will surprise everyone by coming back to power. '' The Congress cannot come back to power and neither will AGP get third term,'' he said.
Making a dig at the Congress party, he said, ''What do you expect from a party led by a foreign national doing nothing but trying to garner votes from foreigners to stay in the power.'' The first phase of poll in the state is going to take place tomorrow and the BJP has a fair chance in this phase in comparison to the second and last phase.
Mr Mahajan said the Congress was considered by the majority in Asom as 'pro-Bangladeshi'.
''Ironically the minority are also deserting them and drifting towards the newly formed Asom United Democratic Front (AUDF).'' He also criticised the AGP of siding with the CPI(M) and the Samajwadi Party adding that instability of their leadership and misrule of previous regime would not give them a clear mandate.
