2 killed, BSF picket attacked, 40 kg explosive recovered in J

Srinagar, Apr 2 (UNI) A militant of Pakistan based Al-Badr was among two people killed while security forces arrested three militants and recovered 40 kg of explosive in Jammu and Kashmir overnight, official sources said today.

Militants also attacked a BSF picket with a rifle grenade in north Kashmir.

Militants kidnapped and later killed one Momin Rashid at Gowharpora Chadoora in the central Kashmir district of Badgam early this morning.

Sources said militants fired a rifle grenade towards a BSF picket at Kunzar Tangmarg in Baramulla district today. However, the grenade missed the intended target and exploded at a distance without causing any damage.

An official spokesman said an encounter took place between militants and security forces at Sanglot under police station Guresai last night in which an Al-badr militant was killed. One ak rifle, four magazines and two hand grenades were recovered from the slain militant. The encounter ensued after a search party was attacked by militants, he said.

He said one Dilshad was injured when a hand grenade, he was fiddling with, exploded at Lama Dhar Maha Kund under police station Gool last night. He has been hospitalised.

A defence ministry spokesman said on specific information Army launched an operation in village Darsu in Baramula District yesterday. However, while approaching village, troops observed suspicious movement. When challenged and asked to stop, the militants tried to lob a grenade on security forces.

However, troops immediately overpowered the militant identified as Tanveer Sheikh a teenager.

Three hand grenades have been recovered from his possession, he said adding the militant was later handed over to the Sopore police.

In another operation, during cordon and search operation, troops busted a hideout in a cave and recovered 40 kg of explosives in the same district.

He said troops also apprehended another militant Javid Ahmad Lone from Arigam village in the central Kashmir district of Badgam.

Four hand grenades, two UBGL grenades, 10 rounds AK ammunition and 18 rounds of PIKA ammunition have been recovered from his possession.

The militant was also handed over to the Police.
