Youth gets double lifer for kidnapping, murdering child
Akola, Apr 1 (UNI) The Sessions court at Washim today sentenced a 24-year-old youth to double life imprisonment under sections 302 and 364 respectively of Indian Penal Code for kidnapping and murdering a minor in 2004.
Handing down the sentence this noon, Additional Sessions Judge M V Yeotikar sentenced Shrikrishna Pedam to life imprisonment under section 364 of IPC and also sentenced him to seven year's rigorous imprisonment for distroying the evidence under section 201 of IPC.
The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 in each court of IPC.
The prosecution told the court that Geeta Manoj Kumre had come to her parents house at village Poha in the adjoining Washim district with her four-year-old son who went missing since September 22, 2004. She informed the police, who found the deceased, Yash's, body in the house of accused adjacent to the house of grandfather of the deceased child two days after he went.
The accused had mortgaged his field and demanded Rs 25,000 from the child's father. Yash was kidnapped and murdered after the accused's demand was not fulfilled, he added.
Total 14 witnesses were examined, including two eyewitnesses.
