Ten candidates file nominations in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 1 (UNI) Ten independent candidates today filed nominations papers for the first and second phase of the Assembly elections in the state.
Election Commission (EC) sources said no prominent candidates figured in the nominations.
The Assembly election process in Kerala got underway on March 28 with the EC issuing notification for the first phase of polls.
Elections in the state are to be held in three phases. The notification for the second phase was issued yesterday.
The notification for the third phase would be issued on April five.
In the first phase, 59 constituencies in Idukki, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram would go to the polls on April 22.
In the second phase, 66 constituencies in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur and Ernakulam would go to the polls on April 29.
The third phase on May three would involve only 15 constituencies in the northern districts of Kannur and Kasaragod. The last date for filing nominations for the first phase is April four and the scrutiny of papers would take place the next day.
The last day for withdrawal is April seven. For the second phase, the last date for filing nominations is April seven and the scrutiny of papers will be on April eight.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature is April ten.
