Six new HC judges take oath

Chandigarh, Apr 1 (UNI) Six district and sessions judges, three each from Punjab and Haryana, were administered oath-of-office as judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court here today.

These judges, who were adminstered the oath-of-office by Chief Justice D K Jain, included H S Bhalla, A N Jindal, M M S Bedi, all three from Punjab, and H S Madan, Arvind Goel and S D Anand from Haryana.

Only recently seven members of the High Court bar were elevated to the post of judges. With today's inductions, the total strength of the High Court Bench has come to 40, including the Chief Justuce, the highest so far.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court now has a sanctioned strength of 53 judges including the CJ.

Significantly, for the first time in the history of the High Court, a brother and a sister were now part of the Bench as the new entrant S D Anand is the brother of Justice Kiran Anand Lall who too was like her brother, a district and sessions judge before being elevated as the judge of the High Court.
