Six get life sentence in rape, murder case

Davangere, Karnataka, Apr 1 (UNI) The district and sessions court today convicted and sentenced six people to life imprisonment in connection with a case relating to the gang rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl.

Judge S Siddhalingesh also imposed a total fine of Rs one lakh on the accused, out of which Rs 50,000 would be paid as compensation to the victim's family.

The prosecution said that in December 2004, the six men had abducted, gang raped and murdered the girl on a field near Halavagilu village in Harpanahalli taluk. The girl, who was studying tenth standard, was returning home from school when the incident took place.

The convicted were Nagaraj, Shivanand, Fakirappa, Vasu, Lakappa and Manjappa.

Harpanahalli police had registered a case and filed a chargesheet before the court.
