3 lakh vehicles fined across state
Lucknow, Apr 1: More than three lakh vehicles have been fined by the Uttar Pradesh police across the state during the three month period from October to December 2005, for violating various traffic rules.
Director General of State Police Yashpal Singh said here today that 3.14 lakh vehicles were challaned during the special traffic drive in the last three months of previous year across UP. A sum of Rs 2.71 crore was realised as penalty from the owners of the vehicles challaned, he added.
The sum realised as penalty was Rs 1.63 lakh more than the amount realised as penalty from traffic rule breakers during the same period in 2004, Mr Singh said.
As many as 1,679 traffic seminars were also organised to generate awareness about traffic rules and safety, including 253 seminars at district headquarters, 431 at tehsil headquarters and 995 seminars at police station levels.
Besides, competitions were organised in schools and colleges to encourage students to learn about traffic rules and safety, Mr Singh added.
