Oommen Chandy's poll rival remanded
Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 1 (UNI) Students Federation of India (SFI) state president Sindhu Joy, the Left Democratic Front(LDF) candidate against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in Puduppally in the coming Assembly election, was today remanded to 14 days judicial custody by a city court.
The Judicial First Class Magistrate Court remanded her after she surrendered before the court, in cases relating to the recent student agitations.
The police had registered 14 cases against her on various charges, including destruction of public property and attempt to murder, and had issued warrants in five cases.
Though Ms Sindhu had moved an anticipatory bail application yesterday, it was rejected by the Sessions Court. Her plea for bail before the Magistrate Court today was also rejected.
Talking to reporters, she alleged that the police had not served her summons and and they declared her as '' absconding''.
Election Commission sources, however, said that she could contest the election as the charges against her were not proved and she was only an accused in the cases.
