Hero Honda pips Bajaj

Mumbai, Apr 1 (UNI) Hero Honda Motors has posted a 14.3 per cent rise in its bike sales for the last month, while Bajaj Auto's bike sales have increased by 37 per cent and TVS Motors by 31 per cent.

Though percentage-wise Bajaj Auto tops in sales, followed by TVS Motors and Hero Honda, in terms of absolute numbers, it is Hero Honda which scores over other two lead players in the country with its sale of 264,816 units last month, as against 231,593 units in the same month a year ago.

Pune-based Bajaj Auto during this period posted mobike sales of 183,927, against 134,707 in March last year, while TVS Motors' motorcycle sales rose to 83,896 units, from 64,273 units in the corresponding month last year, the releases issued by the companies here said.

India's third-largest motorcycle maker, TVS Motor today said its March'06 two-wheeler sales - comprising motorcycle and gearless scooters rose 21 per cent to 128,857 units, from 106,218 units in the same month a year ago. Motorcycle sales rose 31 per cent to 83,896 units from 64,273 units, while gearless scooters fell four per cent to 17,410 units from 18,135 units.

Bajaj Auto posted total two-wheelers' sales at 187,696 last month, as against 144,861 in the same month last year.
