Fake job racket busted; kigpin arrested

Surat, Apr 1 (UNI) City police have busted a racket cheating people in the name of providing jobs abroad and have arrested the kingpin involved in the crime.

Police at Mahidharpura here told UNI that David Samuel, was running a job placement agency, International Links in the Dilli Gate area of the city. The accused extracted money and seized the passports of young men, whom he succeeded in luring with a job offer abroad.

However, the racket came to light when a city-based youth Girish Pandya filed a complaint with police that he had given Rs one lakh and his passport to David Samuel for a job abroad.

The complaint alleged that the agency owner neither sent him abroad, nor did he return his passport and money.

Following this, the police arrested Samuel on Thursday on charges of cheating and later searched his office and seized fake job offer letters.

Police said the accused also operated from another office in Vasai, Thane district and more than seven complaints were received from various persons in and around Surat of being cheated by him.

Meanwhile, he was produced before the sessions court here yesterday where he was remanded to police custody for six days.

Besides Samuel, police has also registered a case against six others allegedly involved in the crime under sections 420, 406, 465, 467, 468 and others of the IPC and a search is on to nab them.
