Bullet proof raths idea may be a non-starter

New Delhi, Apr 1 (UNI) All the attempts of the Government to provide bullet proof raths for the yatras of Leader of Opposition L K Advani and BJP President Rajnath Singh from April 6 may prove to be a non-starter, because there is hardly time to prepare such a vehicle fit for several sensitive areas including naxal strongholds.

There have been discussions between the security agencies and the BJP leaders handling the proposed 'Bharat Suraksha Yatra' yesterday and today and the party was not averse to accepting the government's offer in view of the intelligence inputs that the Yatras of the two leaders are 'fraught with risks'.

BJP President Rajnath Singh, addressing the BJP corporators wing of the party, touched the issue when he said that the intellingence inputs predicting risk for the yatra was itself a justification for taking out a nationwide Suraksha yatra.

Overall incharge of the twin yatra M Venkaiah Naidu has already said that the schedules of the two leaders may get disturbed because the two leaders are programmed to travel 250 km every day.

BJP Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, who interacted with the Home Ministry on behalf of the party yesterday and today, said the BJP welcomed the gesture but the time available for preparing such secure vehicles was too short and it would not be practical for the party to expect for the government to come up with such secure raths.
