'Bar and Bench Meet 2006' held in TN

Tiruchirapalli, Apr 1 (UNI) The state-level ''Bar and Bench Meet 2006'' today resolved to appoint committees for holding periodical meetings among the bar, bench and police to ensure smooth and cordial working of judicial institutions.

The meeting, the first-of-its-kind in the country, was organised by the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry here to discuss various various issues facing the judiciary, including pending cases in courts and vacancies in various posts.

In another resolution, it said if any advocate was to be arrested in connection with a case, it should be done in consulation with the concerned bar association president, district judge and the member of the bar council of the area to prevent unnecessary boycott of courts.

Any grievance of the Bar will be brought to the notice of the Bar Council which in turn shall take the matter before the Chief Justice.

Other resolutions include among others the state and Central Government will consider the views of the State Bar Council and the Bar Council of India (BCI) before taking any decision connected with the legal profession, filling up vacancies in various posts within a reasonable time and consider bail applications on all seven days of the week.

The meeting was chaired by Madras High Court Chief Justice A P Shah.
