Alligator conservation in MP
Bhopal, Apr 1 (UNI) Two grown-up male alligators and several cubs, brought from the Kukrail Gharial Centre near Lucknow, have been released in the Son Gharial Sanctuary and National Chambal Sanctuary, official sources said today.
The exercise was conducted under the supervision of the Director, Sanjay National Park; the Superintendent, Son Gharial Sanctuary; the Superintendent, National Chambal Sanctuary and the Director, Madras Crocodile Bank, besides aquatic life experts from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
In this state, alligators are found only in the Chambal, Son and Ken rivers with the estimate being 600-700 for Chambal. The Son Sanctuary has about 100 of which only five are male.
