Newly married couple commit suicide

Kanpur, Mar 31 (UNI) A newly married couple allegedly committed suicide by shooting themselves under Chakeri area of Kanpur City late last night, police today said.

Udai Bhan (28) and Priya (24) -- reidents of Mangal Vihar and Lakshmipurwa respectively -- had tied knot against the wishes of their families.

According to police, the couple -- who lived separately -- were frustrated at not getting the consent of their families to their union.

Last night, they went near the railway track in Girjanagar area.

Udai first shot his wife dead and later ended his life in similar fashion with a countrymade revolver.

On receiving the information, police reached the spot this morning and sent the bodies for autopsy.

Police recovered the firearm and a few live cartridges.
