Gorakhpur, Mar 31 (UNI) Ruling out mid-term polls in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav today exhorted party activists to gear up for the next assembly polls.

Addressing a public meeting at Badhalganj town in the district, Mr Yadav alleged the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) at the centre had been constantly conspiring against his dispensation.

''But, my government will complete its term and the polls will happen at the scheduled time only,'' he asserted.

Taking a swipe at the AICC president, Mr Yadav claimed the Congress had conspired for termination of the Rajya Sabha memberships of cine star Jaya Bachchan and SP leader Amar Singh.

''But, Congress fell in its own trap and party president Sonia Gandhi had to resign her Lok Sabha seat and National Advisory Council (NAC) chairperson post,'' he noted.

The CM observed that the constitution framers had made provision of the Upper House so that eminent personalities from different fields could be nominated to it.

''When Jaya's RS membership was terminated by means of a PIL, sweets were distributed at the Congress' headquarters, but when Ms Gandhi resigned her LS seat, it was termed as renunciation and sacrifice,'' he commented, claiming that there were 56 parliamentarians occupying posts of profit and if their memberships were terminated, the UPA government would fall.

The development process in UP was also being hurdled by way of similar PILs, the CM maintained adding, raids were being conducted against industrialists, who were willing to invest in the state.

''Previous governments always clamoured for funds, but now UP is not short of financial resources for development...The process of development will gain more momentum if SP came to power again.'' Referring to the deadly Japanese Encephalitis (JE), the Chief Minister lamented that the previous regimes had failed to address the situation.

''We have given Rs seven crore to the Gorakhpur Medical College for effective control and treatment of the menance.'' About 1,000 people, mostly children, were killed due to JE last year in the Gorakhpur region.

Earlier, Mr Yadav laid foundation of different development projects worth Rs 75 crore in the district.
