Dempo outplays JCT 3-0

Mapusa, Mar 31 (UNI) Exhibiting brilliant ball control and shooting power, reigning champions Dempo humbled JCT mills, Phagawara, 3-0 in the second leg of the ONGC Cup 10th National Football League (NFL) championship at Duler grounds here today.

For winners, all the three goals came in the first half through Nascimento Silveira, Renty Martin and Isfaq Ahmed.

Dempo lads began on a rousing note with a control of midfield and attack and shot into the lead in the 21st minute through Nascimento Silveira. It was a free kick by Roberto Mendes Silva (Beto) which hit the goal post and deflected into the play, Silveira, pounced upon the opportunity and shot into the net. 1-0 Inspired by a lead, Dempo continued to attack and increased their lead in the 25th minute through Renty Martin off a pass from Clifford Miranda to make it 2-0.

Insfaq Ahmed made it 3-0 in favour of Dempo in the 28th minute.

Ahmed collected the ball from the centre and ran down solo dodging past rival defenders and also deceived goalkeeper to shoot in.

The millmen, too, had a couple of chances to reduce the margin, but their forwards were not quick in grasping the advantages.

With this win, Dempo took their tally to 13 points from 10 outings with 3 wins 4 draws and 3 defeats, while JCT remained on same 10 points from equal number of matches.

Dempo's forward Robertoon the Mendes Silva( Beto) was adjudged the man of the match today.
