CPI(M) renominates three MLAs, 6 new faces
Chennai, Mar 31 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has renominated three of its six MLAs while fielding six new faces for the May 8 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
Releasing the candidates list here, state secretary N Varadarajan said the CPI(M) was not renominating sitting members J Hemachandran, D Moni and K C Karunakaran as they had served two terms.
The party constitution prevented sitting MLAs from seeking election for a third successive term, he said, adding, however, three sitting members - N Nanmaran, K Balabharathy and S K Magendiran had been renominated to seek election from Madurai East, Dindigul and Perambur (Res) constituencies, respectively.
The CPI(M), which is contesting 13 seats in alliance with the DMK, heading the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA), has fielded three women candidates, including present MLA Balabharathy.
The party has also fielded former MLAs C Govindasamy, R Krishnan and two state Secretariat Members A Soundararajan and K Balakrishnan to contest from Tirupur, Vasudevanallur (Res) Singanallur and Chidambaram respectively, Mr Varadarajan said.
The new faces are G Latha (Gudiyatham), P Marimuthu(Nagapattinam), Su Venkatesan (Thiruparankundram), G John Joseph (Vilavangode), R Leema Rose (Thiruvattar) and P Delhi Babu (Arur-Res).
