Coulthard riled by Montoya rumours

MELBOURNE, Mar 31 (Reuters) David Coulthard has reacted angrily to Formula One rumours he could lose his seat at Red Bull next year to Juan Pablo Montoya, the Colombian who replaced him at McLaren.

''He has just got to shut up and get on with it. I can't comment on rumours, I can only comment on fact,'' the Scot told British reporters at the Australian Grand Prix.

''The statistics show that relative to Kimi (Raikkonen), he (Montoya) has not done as well as I did,'' added Coulthard.

''I know that McLaren use that type of information to make decisions, and he simply has not done anything remarkable...one year in, he has had a clear indication from McLaren that they are not that impressed.'' While Finland's Raikkonen won seven races last year and finished overall runner-up, Montoya won three and ended the season in fourth place.

He also missed two races after an accident in training.

Coulthard moved to Red Bull, the former Jaguar team bought by Austrian energy drink billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz, for 2005 after McLaren signed Montoya.

The Briton scored 24 points and finished fourth in Australia last year, but Montoya has been linked to various teams since McLaren confirmed Renault's world champion Fernando Alonso was joining them in 2007.

Coulthard, who turned 35 last Monday, said he wanted to stay at the Ferrari-powered team that recently signed McLaren's technical director Adrian Newey.

''I have invested time and effort in my team and I would like to see the results of that,'' the Daily Telegraph quoted him as saying.

''I believe Dietrich Mateschitz to be committed and loyal to people who are performing,'' added the Scot, who won 13 races with Williams and McLaren and was a distant runner-up to Ferrari's Michael Schumacher in 2001.

''I haven't got any points on the board in the first two races but over the course of the season I believe I will perform and score points and deliver for the team.
