Trident group to set-up IT project in Punjab

Chandigarh, Mar 30 (UNI) The Punjab government has given its nod to a Rs 85 crore Information Technology (IT) project of the Trident group, to be set-up at Mohali.

Work on the project will begin in August this year, Trident CEO Mr Rajindra Gupta today said.

The approval for the project was given by the Punjab Empowered Committee which met yesterday.

The company has acquired two acres of land for the project in the Industrial Area in Mohali, next to Quark City. The venture will give direct employment to about 2000 people, Mr Gupta said.

''All the spadework on this project has been done, Even the blue print of the building is ready, '' he added..

This will be Trident's first IT project, which is into terry towels, paper and yarn business, '' We are the second largest manufacturers of terry towels in the country,'' Mr Gupta said while affirming that his company would scale the same heights in IT.

The Punjab government has already approved a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for IT and ITES sectors and residential township on Zirakpur-Dera Bassi road in Patiala district, spread over an area of 700 acres and involving an investment of Rs 2,243 crores.

An industrial park in Ropar district with an investment of Rs 952 crore has also been approved by the state government at its meeting yesterday. Besides agro-processing units to be set-up at Mohali and Gurdaspur have also been given the nod.
