Saregama joins Dhwani to promote classical music

Kolkata, Mar 29 (UNI) Saregama-HMV, the leading organized public limited music company, today tied up with Dhwani-The Institute for Drumming-run by noted percussionist and tabla maestro Bikram Ghosh to present the Heritage India Concert Series.

''Indian classical music needs to be repackaged. To promote the great tradition of this music, we will hold concerts in the heritage sites all over India,'' Mr Ghosh said.

''Twenty four such shows are planned in the northern, western, eastern and southern part of the country. We are in the look out for heritage sites throughout the country,'' he said.

''The first in the series will be held today at the Prinsep Monument in Kolkata. The concert will feature Mr Ghosh with his Rhythmscape band and new age santoor maestro Rahul Sharma,'' Saregama India Ltd business manager S F Karim said.

''The annual event will also portray new talents,'' Mr Karim said.

Mobile service provider Airtel has also come forward in the endeavor of promoting classical music by providing its subscribers ringtones from Mr Ghosh's music album ''Folk Tale'' and Mr Sharma's music album ''Time Traveller''.

The Airtel subscribers will get the ringtones by sending message ''fun'' to 646.
