Amethi (Sultanpur), Mar 30 (UNI) Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi today asserted that the decision of his mother and Congress president Sonia Gandhi to resign her Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat over the post of profit issue was appropriate.

Talking to mediapersons here, Rahul said he felt proud over his mother's decision.

''My sister Priyanka and I had also supported her decision to resign when she discussed the issue with us,'' he added.

''If my mother is steadfast on any decision, she never hesitates to make it public whether it is the post of prime minister or Lok Sabha membership,'' Rahul, who is camping in his parliamentary constituency since yesterday, said.

His visit came a day after Sonia visited her former Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constitutency on Tuesday and announced she would fight the bypoll from there.

Earlier in the day, Rahul went to Afoiya village to get a first hand account of the condition of 19 dalit families affected by a major fire incident yesterday.

He also distributed relief material and assured all help from his side.

A large number of his electorate called upon their young leader with grievances related to health, employment, education and development works.

Rahul patiently heard their grievances and directed his staff to take necessary actions accordingly.

The Congress leader also held a meeting of block presidents and district panchayat members.

However, he cut short the visit and returned to the national capital due to some urgent work.
