PIL against Gujarat Govt over land takeover
Surat, Mar 30 (UNI) A public interest litigation has been filed in the Gujarat High Court against the State Government by Farmers Development Organization of Gujarat president Hasmukh Desai, challenging the Government's decision to sell land belonging to Navsari Agricultural University here.
The State Government has invited tenders offering 6.5 acres of land belonging to the university for sale. An 108-year-old Cotton Research Unit stands on the land.
The Gujarat Farmers Association has already launched an agitation, opposing the proposed sale. Mr Vipin Desai, president of the Association, told UNI that functioning of the renowned Cotton Research Unit will suffer if the land is sold. The institute also has a farm on the land where different varities of cotton are grown.
