Person surrenders in connection to patient's death

Durgapur, Mar 30 (UNI) Medical Superintendent of Durgapur Projects Ltd Hospital Dr Hiramani Singh today surrendered before the local court here today in the wake of controversy relating to death of a patient on the operation table on March 25.

The trouble started last week after Satyabrata Deb (45), who was administered anaesthesia by Dr Hiramani Sigh, before a surgery on his finger, died on the table.

Police had detained Dr Partha Chandra, Dr Jiban Chatterjee and Dr Hiramuni Singh in this case on March 25. However, they were later released following pressure from the members of the Indian Medical Association (East).

IMA members had called strike in 24 nursing homes yesterday and refused to treat patients except in the emergency section.
