NICD linked with centres for Integrated disease surviellance

New Delhi, Mar 30 (UNI) The National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) Delhi, has been linked with Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Bangalore and Raipur for integrated disease surviellance in the country.

Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ambumani Ramadoss linked NICD with satellite linkage through EDUSAT yesterday which would be used to monitor and review the health schemes with the states, to survey the diseases prevalent in different locations, to train public health officials through tele-conferencing, to achieve emergency preparedness and to send rapid health missions to contain the outbreak of any disease.

Speaking at the induction ceremony of the first batch of Master of Public Health (field epidemiology), Dr Ramadoss said the problem in the health sector is related to health delivery system which needs proper planning, monitoring and management and administrative recharge.

In this context, he emphasised the need for invovement of non-medical people in the health sector and underlined the need for training in public health.

Dr Ramadoss stated that through satellite linkage all the districts and villages would be linked for integrated health surviellance. He said said public health needs a lot more investment and proper coordination with the private sector.

He said public private partnership is needed to bring quality manpower into the health sector. The Government is taking steps to have exchange programmes with world renowned health institutions, he added.
