MCPI to field candidates in four Kerala districts

Kochi, Mar 30 (UNI) Former CPI-M leader V B Cherian, who recently floated the Marxist Communist Party of India (United), today said it would put up candidates in four districts in the Assembly polls.

The MCPI will also contest the Vellayankod constitutency in Tamil Nadu, bordering Kerala, he said at a press conference here.

Mr Cherian, a former CPI-M state committee member, announced the names of five candidates for Ernakulam and Kollam districts and said the names of more candidates for Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha districts would be announced shortly.

K V Purushothaman will contest in Vadakekara, M K Vijayan in Paravur and Edapally Basheer in Aluva in Ernakulam district while N Parameshwaran Pothy will contest from Karunagapalli and K Sundresan from Chathyamangalam in Kollam district.

Describing the CPI-M and CPI as 'institutionalised left parties', he said there was no difference in the policies being pursued by them and the Congress. Referring to the LDF manifesto released a few days ago, he said there was nothing in it for the state's development.
