Mamata starts poll campaign in North 24 Parganas
Hasnabad, Mar 30 (UNI) Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today asserted that the Bangladeshis permanently living in West Bengal were not infiltrators.
Addressing a rally here in North 24 Parganas to start off her poll campaign, she differed with her ally BJP's definition of infiltrators and said that all Bangladeshis could not be treated as such.
''There is no reason to deport them unless they were involved in any crime and anti-India activity,'' she said.
She said the Left Front government in West Bengal had no right to return to power as it failed to provide adequate civic services to the people and alleged that the Left Front also failed to eradicate the arsenic borne diseases from the state in spite of financial support from previous the NDA and UPA governments.
She said that during its 29 years of regime, it had ignored the problems like the erosion of Icchamati river.
Little step was taken in this regard despite the help of the Centre, she added.
