Lata denies all comments on flyover controversy
Mumbai, Mar 30 (UNI) Melody queen Lata Mangeshkar described the statement attributed to her that she would leave Mumbai if the Peddar road flyover was built as baseless and mischievous.
Ms Mangeshkar said, in a statement circulated to the media last night. that her name was being unnecessarily dragged in the issue.
''I have not spoken to any journalist in this connection and I do not know who's imagination is this. I deny all comments which have appeared in my name on the flyover controversy.'' She said that her family had been involved directly or indirectly in social movements for several years and added, ''I understand what is good for the society but what I don't understand is the present trend in journalism.'' She said, ''I have good relation with many mediapersons but in today's journalism, news is created when there is no news, and the person targeted, has to issue clarification.'' She added that she wish to maintain silence over the controversy and hoped that her silence will not be interpreted in different ways.
The Mangeshkars are residents of Prabhu Kunj building on Peddar road which connects the suburbs with the city and the government has decided to go ahead with a plan to build a flyover from Haji Ali to Wilson college over Peddar road to ease traffic congestion.
