Lakhanpur coal project to boost production

New Delhi, Mar 30 (UNI) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today approved floating and approval of tenders for Lakhanpur opencast coal mining project's expansion of 15 million tonnes per annum for outsourcing coal production and incremental overburden removal for initial five years.

It also approved reapproriation and rephasing of sanctioned capital of Rs 98.74 crore to meet enhanced coal production.

The CCEA approved flexibility in implementation stage within the approval cost estimates to respond to improvements in technology and equipment which will result in improved profitability and productivity parameters.

The project will produce 15 million tonne per year of coal of grade F, said minister for information and broadcasting P R Dasmunsi. It will be supplied to the linked customers of various state government owned thermal power stations.

The Lakhanpur opencast project is situated in Jharsuguda of Orissa.
