Hiremath withdraws hunger strike following CM's assurance

Dharwad, Mar 30 (UNI) Dharwad Bar Association President B D Hiremath today withdrew his fast-unto-death agitation against the delay in taking up works for setting up a circuit bench of the Karnataka High Court here, after receiving a written assurance from Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

Mr Hiremath withdrew his six-day-old stir after Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Basavaraj Horatti and Revenue Minister Jagdish Shettar handed over the written assurance that the Chief Minister himself would perform the ''Bhoomi pooja'' for the construction works at the Water and Land Management Institute, near here, on April 11.

Mr Horatti informed Mr Hiremath that the Government had earmarked Rs 44 crore for the circuit benches, to be set up in Dharwad and Gulbarga.

Accepting juice from the Ministers as a mark of breaking his fast, Mr Hiremath warned that he would again embark on a hunger stir if things did not materialise by April 11.
