Father-son duo sentenced to imprisonment in dowry case

Kolkata, Mar 30 (UNI) A father-son duo in North Bidhanagar were sentenced to 7 years' and 3 years' imprisonment respectively by a fast track court here for provocating a housewife to commit suicide in June 2004.

Assistant public prosecutor Samir Chakraborty said that altogether 22 witnesses, besides material evidences were examined during trials. Additional district and sessions judge Santanu Roy awarded the verdict to 60-year-old Ramlaxman Sharma and his son Ajay(30).

Police said the victim, 21-year-old Vinita, hung herself in her in-laws' house as her father had failed to pay part of the dowry.
