New Delhi, Mar 30 (UNI) Government today said it has decided to extend the time limit for withdrawal of the SSI (Small Scale Industry) excise exemption to August one, to the power driven pumps which are not manufactured as per the BIS standards.

The exemption had to be withdrawn, as per the Budget for 2006-07, by April one, 2006. ''This (extenstion of time) will give sufficient time to the units to get the requisite BIS certification within this period'', an official statement said.

The change was aimed at encouraging manufacture of energy efficient and safe pumps which find widespread use in agriculture, it said.

However, it was conveyed to the government that some units would not be able to get the benefit of SSI exemption as they may not be able to get the BIS certification by 1st April, 2006.

''In order to give sufficient time to the units likely to be affected by the withdrawal of SSI exemption to obtain requisite BIS certification, Government has decided to extend the time limit for the proposed withdrawal of SSI exemption from April one August one 2006'', the statement said. The required notification has been issued.
