DoT issues commemorative stamp on completion of IARI centenary

New Delhi, Mar 30 (UNI) With the completion of centenary celebrations of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), the Department of Posts (DoT) today issued a commemorative stamp to acknowledge the contributions of the Institute and the scientific community.

Minister of State for Communications and IT Dr Shakeel Ahmed released the postal stamp at a function organised by the IARI here.

Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar was the chief guest on the occasion.

Release of commemorative postal stamp gives an opportunity to define the progress made in agricultural sector and its impact on the technological and economic gains.

The IARI completed 100 years of its existence in 2005 and the year-long centenary celebrations included series of programmes such as Scientific Conventions, Workshops, Farmers's Fair, Agro-Industrial Exhibition and various field programmes at its regional stations.

The centenary gave an opportunity to project the progress of agricultural science alongwith technological and economic gains that benefited the nation besides providing food security and pioneering in agricultural research and education.

Ever since its establishment, the institute provided an inspiring leadership in the development of agricultural research, infrastructure and technologies that led to India's emergence as a food-sufficient country.
