Meet to assess refugees problems

Jammu, Mar 30: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Vijay Bakaya, convened a meeting with several higher authorities to assess the problems of refugees of 1947.

The state government had emphasised upon a permanent and viable settlement of West Pakistan Refugees, who came to India in 1947 and settled in Jammu city.

The meeting discussed provision of relief package, establishment of an independent Administration Department for the Refugees, Provision of common land and their permanent settlement.

Mr Bakaya directed Divisional Commissioner, Jammu to look into the demands of the refugees and submit a detailed report within 15 days. He further told the Sharnarthi Action Committee that they would receive due consideration from the Government under the prescribed norms.

Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Pramod Jain, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Hirdesh Kumar Singh, Relief Commissioner, Jammu K Mohinder Singh, Director Evacuee Property and President Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee, Captain R. K. Raina attended the meeting.
