C'garh Governor returns bill for reconsideration

Raipur, Mar 30 (UNI) Chhattisgarh Governor Lt Gen (retd) Krishna Mohan Seth has returned for reconsideration a bill, which was passed by the assembly nearly one and a half years ago, to ban slaughter of animals, including buffaloes.

Returning the bill without granting approval, the Governor pointed out that buffalo and she-buffaloes cannot be brought under such a prohibition.

Mr Seth quoted separate judgements of High Courts of Gujarat, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh to point out that a ban could be imposed on salughter of cow, bull, calf and oxen but buffaloes could not be included in the list.

The Assembly was informed today that the Governor had returned the bill for reconsideration on March 26, under article 200 of the constitution.

The state Legislative Assembly had passed the Chhattisgarh Krishik Pashu Pratirakshan Bill in December 2004.
