Army Chief hails Indo-US nuclear deal
Mumbai, Mar 30 (UNI) The Indo-US nuclear agreement, which was signed recently, would safeguard the security of the country, Chief of the Army Staff, General J J Singh said here today.
After the launch of the first ship of Project-15A at the Mazagaon dock, the Army Chief said the nuclear deal with the US would strengthen the nuclear programme of the country.
''We should welcome the agreement as it ensures the security and safety of the nation, as well as strengthening the nuclear programme of the country,'' he said.
Referring to Siachen issue, he said ''composite dialogue between India and Pakistan is on in this regard and if both the sides agree, demilitarisation of Siachen may take place.'' On Jammu and Kashmir, the General said terrorist activities are on the decline in the valley.
''We have adequate troops to control terrorism in J&K and the situation is very much stable,'' he added.
