Water works: best combined storage levels in dams in a decade
New Delhi, Mar 29 (UNI) The combined storage level in 31 reservoirs monitored by Central Water Commission (CWC) indicate that the position was better compared to the last 10 years' average.
These hydro-power reservoirs with an installed capacity of 60 MW each, which had recorded water levels of only 13 per cent of their designed capacity at the beginning of monsoon during June last year, showed a rise in level upto 39 per cent as on March 24.
Basinwise storage position was better than average of previous ten years in Indus, Narmada, Tapi, Mahi,Sabarmati, Kutch rivers, Godavari, Krishna, Mahanadi and neighbouring east flowing rivers, Cauvery and neighbouring east flowing rivers and west flowing rivers of the south.
The CWC keeps in touch with Department of Agriculture and Cooperation and provides information on the weekly storage position to the Crop Weather Watch Group for evolving suitable crop strategies.
