Chennai, Mar 29 (UNI) From the May 2004 Lok Sabha election to the May 8 Assembly poll, MDMK leader Vaiko has made a U-turn in his politics.

From the same Pulla Reddy avenue in Central Chennai where he had addressed a massive rally on February 19, 2004, in the run upto the Lok Sabha elections, calling upon the people to teach a fitting lesson to the 'anti-people AIADMK Government' he tonight appealed to the people to bring the AIADMK back to power in the state.

Two years ago, Mr Vaiko had claimed that all sections of people were affected by the AIADMK's policies and were waiting for an opportunity to give vent to their anger. That was his first rally after he came out of prison after 19 months detention in prison under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

The mass dismissal of government employees, the midnight arrest of DMK chief M Karunanidhi, alleged misuse of POTA against political adversaries and 'immature attacks' on the press had alienated the people from the AIADMK, he had said.

However striking an alliance with the AIADMK now, Vaiko called on the people to reelect her for continued good governance, and noted that in the last one year, she rolled back several harsh decisions, and restored benefits to government staff, for instance.
