Two extortionists arrested
Mumbai, Mar 29 (UNI) Two persons were arrested for demanding money from a businessman at Goregaon in the Western suburbs late last night, police said today.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) D R Karale told reporters here Mohammed Jakir Hussain Sheikh (45) and Milind Bansode (34), who claimed to be belonging to the underworld Dawood Ibrahim gang, had been demanding Rs 50 lakh from the businessman.
They had also warned him that his son and daughter would be killed if he failed to give them money.
When the businessman disconnected his landline phone, he received a letter asking him to come to Aarey colony market with the money.
The businessman went to the spot and the police, which had laid a trap, nabbed the extortionists, he said.
The extortionists were produced before a Metropolitan Magistrate at Borivali this afternoon. They have been remanded to 14 days police custody.
