Ayodhya, Mar 29 (UNI) Congress President Sonia Gandhi resigned her Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat since she could not muster courage to face inquiry over the office of profit issue, BJP president Rajnath Singh today alleged.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Singh said his party had petitioned the President for a probe over Ms Gandhi holding office of profit (National Advisory Council (NAC) chairperson) in spite of being a Member of Parliament.

''However, she resigned before any action could be taken in this regard.''

Harping on Ayodhya issue, Mr Singh claimed BJP was the only party which could pave way for the construction of a grand Ram temple. ''Ram temple construction is a national issue, which has always figured in the BJP agenda in the past and will continue in the future also,'' he reiterated. The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister asserted the Ram temple construction would start soon.

He informed the party had organised a 'Rashtriya Suraksha Yatra' from April 6 to create awareness among the masses.

''I have come for the 'darshan' of Ramlala and seek blessings of the saints before the Yatra begins.'' Ramlala is the makeshift temple at the Ram Janmabhoomi complex here.

Criticising the Uttar Pradesh government for dismal law and order situation, Mr Singh demanded that president's rule be imposed in the state. ''The Mulayam Singh Yadav dispensation has miserably failed at all fronts.''
