Six policemen injured in landmines blast

Jamshedpur, Mar 29 (UNI) Six policemen were injured, one of them seriously, in two separate blasts of landmines, planted by the CPI(Maoist) at Bakrakocha village under Ghorabandha police station in East Sighbhum district today.

Additional Superintendent of Police Sudhir Kurmar Jha had rushed to the spot soon after the incident.

He said the blast took place when a police team, led by Officer-in-Charge of the Ghorabandha police station Jairam Prasad, was on long-range patrolling in the area.

Mr Prasad was also injured in the blast.

Mr Jha said police immediately opened fire after the blast.

He said hundreds of ultras, present in the vicinity, fled inside the dense jungle after exchanging fire with the police.

The injured policemen, which included four Jharkhand Armed Policemen, were rushed to Tata Main Hospital here.

One of them was admitted to Critical Care Unit, hospital sources said.

Inspector General of JAP Nirmala Kaur, who visited the hospital, said the act of the naxalite was cowardice.

Meanwhile, security had been intensified in the Ghorabandha area under Dumaria block and other areas of the district, where Maoists were active, police said and added additional forece were being sent to those areas.
