SC backs National Meat Export Policy

Written by: Staff

New Delhi, Mar 29 (UNI) The Supreme Court today upheld the National Meat Export Policy (NMEP).

A bench comprising Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal and Mr Justice Tarun Chatterjee, while disposing off a bunch of petitions against the impugned Andhra Pradesh High Court order, held that there was nothing wrong or illegal in the policy.

The court also noted that several reports have concluded that export of meat would not effect the cattle wealth in the country .

Leading meat export house of Hyderabad, Messers al Kabir was directed to give yearly report to the Centre and the state governments.

Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board should take steps to bring down the pollution by the abattoir in Hyderabad, which exports meat to most of the countries in West Asia, the court said.
