Sacrifices by liberation leaders forgotten: Sivaraj

Pondicherry, Mar 29 (UNI) Lamenting the sacrifices of several leaders including Mr Edward Goubert for the liberation of Pondicherry from French colonialism was forgotten in due course of time, Indian National Sivaji Congress President and Edward Goubert Endowment Trust President D Sivaraj said steps were being taken to highlight them with the support of some organisations here.

Addressing a press conference today, Mr Sivaraj recalled the role played by several leaders for the liberation and said efforts were not being taken to educate the present generation about them.

The Sivaji Congress and Endowment Trust together will organise a conference here in April on the issue of protecting the interest of people who opted for Indian citizenship after the merger.

A consultation meeting would be held here March 31 in which the stand of the Sivaji Congress on the forthcoming assembly election will also be announced.
